State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan

State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the largest musical group in Kazakhstan.

The orchestra was formed in 1958 on the basis of the Kazakh Radio Symphony Orchestra, and in the same year joined the Philharmonic. Its organizer, leader and first conductor was People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR, People's Artist of Russia, People's Artist of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic Fuat Shakirovich Mansurov, whose name is written in golden letters in the history of this group. The State Academic Symphony Orchestra has come a long and complex creative path.

Its role in promoting new works by Kazakhstani composers is significant, and the orchestra’s creative friendship with composers has long traditions that continue to this day. Over a long period of creative growth, the orchestra was led by many famous musicians including Viktor Yakovlev, Ilya Ostrovsky, Shamgon Kazhgaliev, Gaziz Dugashev, Timur Mynbaev and Renat Salavatov.

From 1987 to 2007, the artistic director and chief conductor of the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Kazakhstan was the People's Artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Tolepbergen Abdrashev.

As from 2008, the orchestra was led by Israeli conductor Vag Papyan.

In 2015, the young conductor Kanat Omarov took over the duties as chief conductor of the orchestra, while the current full-time conductors currently are Yerbolat Akhmedyarov, Muslim Emze and Nurzhan Baybusinov.
